Xpress Pets was founded in 2022 with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a safe, ethical marketplace where pet lovers could connect with responsible breeders and pet owners.
Our founder, Gary Van Wey, a lifelong animal advocate, recognized the need for a platform that prioritized animal welfare above all else. After witnessing the challenges and uncertainties of finding pets through classified ads and unverified sources, he set out to build something better.

Gary Van Wey
Founder & CEO
I saw too many animals ending up in shelters because of poor matches between pets and owners.
Gary Van Wey's journey to founding Xpress Pets began long before the company's inception in 2022. Growing up on his family's farm in rural Minnesota, Gary developed a profound connection with animals from an early age, spending his formative years caring for a diverse range of creatures from household pets to livestock.
After earning his degree in Veterinary Science from Cornell University, Gary spent over a decade working with animal rescue organizations across the country. During this time, he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by both animals in need of homes and families seeking to adopt responsibly.
This realization led Gary to combine his passion for animal welfare with his entrepreneurial spirit. Drawing on his experience as a former tech consultant, he assembled a team of like-minded animal lovers and technology experts to create Xpress Pets—a platform designed to revolutionize how people find and adopt pets.
Today, Gary continues to lead Xpress Pets with unwavering dedication to its founding mission. When not working on expanding the platform's reach and impact, he volunteers at local animal shelters and serves on the board of several animal welfare organizations.
